Blue Peter

Blue Peter

Since 16 October 1958 Blue Peter has been the BBC's flagship children's programme. During the seventies they began to regularly show to how make useful objects and toys out of yogurt pots, old card and other household junk.

Though very thrifty, these designs never quite looked as good when you made them at home, and the presenters own cheat of "Here's one I made earlier", has become legendary.

The rival 70's ITV show Magpie also had a craft element as did the great kid-presented show 'Why don't you'.

The show's support of reuse and recycling is also reflected in it's long standing 'Bring and Buy' sales and scrap collecting drives, which continue to this day.
