For their SS 2009 Artisanal collection Maison Martin Margiela have placed remaking at its heart. A dress constructed from 400 shoe laces is shown alongside a jacket "tatooed" with colored drinking straws and eight pairs of frayed and worn vintage jeans reworked as one-legged overalls.

Margiela seems determined to prove that anything from a clutch of tortoiseshell hair combs to a butterfly patterned kite can be turned into useful clothing.
