House of Fairytales
As part of the House of Fairytales event at Shunt on March 21 st we have joined together with Mermaid Nation and Revamp designers to host :
Mermaid Nation Listening to the deep
The ocean is a powerful place, and though it can be very destructive, it also carries the currents and nutrients around the oceans which in turn warm and feed us. Ocean evaporation feeds the clouds that provide our rain and rivers. We contain 80% water, and are born out of salt water – so let’s rethink how and where water fits into our personal stories and the stuff around us.
Mermaid Nation Rising from the deep
What do fairy and folk tales that speak of the ocean tell us about water and about ourselves? Having looked at these old stories and what they tell us - let’s create something new. Using costume, movement, and voice we’ll take a small group of young people through an exploration of the nature and meaning of the ocean to each of them. At the end of the day we will conclude with a performance or other conclusive format that will express their stories to the world – as the group decides.
Reuse and remaking will be key to this fabulous event for 16-19 year olds and invited guests.
